Google Chrome was released to the Windows world last year - promising to be a new take on web browsing. It's advertising slogan is even "A new way to get online". Many hailed Chrome as the future of web browsing, and expect Google to go head-to-head with Microsoft in a bid to win marketshare over Internet Explorer.

Mac users on the other hand have been left out of the loop on this new browser for the longest time, and Google was heavily criticised for this, and lead many to doubt Google Chrome's strategy in takeing on Internet Explorer without a Mac client. Many of Chrome's features have found their way onto the Mac, such as "Tabs-On-Top" in the Safari 4 BETA, and the SpeedDial homepage is also found in Apple's latest browser (Though this feature was admittedly already in Opera).

Development was looking bleak for Mac users for the longest time, with many issues in the area of sandboxed processes arising in development.

This week however, working trunk builds of Google Chrome for Mac have appeared in Chromium's release pages (Chromium is Chrome's Open-Source developmental cousin) and it looks as though Googles Browser is finally on it's way to the OS X platform.

While the release is inherently buggy, it has been clocked faster than the latest Safari 4 BETA by SunSpider Benchmarks

In the video at the top of this post, I give a view of the look and feel of Chrome for Mac, and my first impressions of the developmental release.

You can download the latest build hereby scrolling down to the bottom and downloading the zip file. Though this may not yet become your everyday browser, there is no harm in giving Google Chrome a shot, and having a go at some of the Windows User's fun!

How to put YouTube videos on your iPod

Downloading videos from YouTube used to require awkward and temperamental online tools or software on your computer. They would download and then only play with certain players and codecs, or require re-encoding into QuickTime formats. It was hard. Awkward. Annoying.

This method is not new, but many hadn't know about it, and only recently has it started to become more popular. And all it required is one click from your browser, on either a Mac or a PC.

All you have to do is drag the above link to your bookmarks bar in Safari or any other browser, and it will stay there as a button waiting to be clicked.

Next time you're sitting watching a YouTube video you want to take with you, click the button you just made, and the bookmarklet (that's what it's called) will grab the source file from YouTube and download it as an Mac, PC and even iPod compatable file - No re-encoding required!

To add it to your iPod, just drag it into iTunes, or onto the iTunes docklet in your dock and sync your iPod again.

I hope this post helped you out, and that you're well on your way to downloading your favourite 'Tube videos to take with you, without bogging down your computer.
